Trump Business Attempted to Hire Nearly 200 Workers on Work Permits in 2025
Donald Trump’s corporate entity increased its hiring of foreign workers on temporary visas this period, even as his government was placing obstacles for other companies attempting to do the same, a report published recently claimed.
Based on data from the US Department of Labor, the Trump Organization aimed to bring in at least nearly 200 overseas employees in 2025 for temporary positions at the US president’s Mar-a-Lago resort, two golf clubs and his winery in Virginia.
The number of applications for temporary work visas covering workers including servers, clerks, housekeepers, culinary employees and farm workers was the record filed by the company, and increased from 121 in the previous term, when his presidency ended.
It was also the fifth instance in 10 years that the former president had sought to hire more than 100 overseas workers for temporary positions at Mar-a-Lago, according to available data.
The disclosure comes amid a crackdown on legal immigration by his government that has included the introduction of a substantial charge on H1-B visas; increased review of the actions of the 55 million people who possess American work permits; and tighter regulations for foreign students and reporters.
Overall, the Trump Organization sought to hire over 560 foreign laborers over the period Trump has been in the presidency, from his first term and during the upcoming year.
Notably, Trump was questioned by some in the GOP this week for remarks justifying the necessity for foreign workers when a company was unable to find people with “specific talents” to fill particular roles.
“You cannot just say a country is coming in, going to invest billions to build a plant, and going to recruit individuals off an jobless roster who have been unemployed in five years, and they’re going to start producing their defense systems. It doesn’t work that well,” he stated to a host after it was implied that foreign workers undercut the wages of US workers.
The White House refused a request for response, and the Trump Organization did not immediately respond to an request for information.
