Thrice-crowned award winner Jokic sustains a 'gut-wrenching' injury to his knee.
Thrice-crowned National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Jokic endured a "gut-wrenching" knee injury while the Nuggets were defeated 147-123 to the Heat.
The Serbian center injured himself towards the end of the second quarter following an unintentional coming together with team-mate Spencer Jones.
Jones landed on the foot of Jokic, and he promptly collapsed to the ground holding his knee.
The veteran player, who is leading the league this season in boards and assists, had a score of 21 points and eight assists in the game before suffering the problem.
He will have an MRI on the following day to determine the seriousness of the injury.
"Immediately, he realized there was a problem," stated Denver coach David Adelman.
"This is part of the NBA. Anyone that suffers an injury, that's gut-wrenching, particularly a player as important as he is. We will know more tomorrow."
"The team will adjust together. Obviously, currently, I am more concerned primarily about him as a person and the frustration of facing an event like that."
