The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Acquisition for United
Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League team.
Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Forward Line
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a major boost to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Steam at Carrington
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club seem to be building momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional business:
- The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
