A woman accused with pursuing Kate McCann apparently deposited her a recorded message which asked: "suppose I am Madeleine?"

Julia Wandelt, 24, who witnesses stated has persistently asserted she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are facing charges accused with stalking Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February 2025.

On Monday, the tribunal was told phone records and information obtained from phones documented Ms Wandelt consistently asking Madeleine's mother for a biological test during that period.

Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - at the age of three during a family holiday in Portugal - is among the most publicized investigations and continues to be open.

One recorded message, presented in court, documented Ms Wandelt declaring: "I realize I'm fat and plain like Madeleine used to be, but I know what I feel."

While a separate message of Ms Wandelt's one-way conversations with Mrs McCann's voicemail said: "Imagine there is a small chance that I am Madeleine? What happens next? Wouldn't that be crucial for you?"

"I do not need money, I possess a existence here in Poland, I just want to discover," the message continued.

The jury was advised that through electronic messages, SMS messages and communications, Ms Wandelt requested a DNA test, transmitted childhood photos to her phone in a bid to demonstrate a similarity to Mrs McCann's missing daughter, and asserted to have "memories" from a early life with the McCanns.

Robert Jones, an intelligence analyst with Leicestershire Police who collated the evidence, advised the court there "seemed to lack any replies" from Mrs McCann.

Ms Wandelt additionally communicated with close associates of the McCanns, according to the phone records.

On 9 October 2024, the father picked up a call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "a wrong number."

That day Ms Wandelt deposited a message on Mrs McCann's recording declaring "I will continue and I will prove my point."

The court was informed Mrs Spragg developed a relationship via internet with Ms Wandelt before assisting her on a appearance to the McCanns' residence in the county in that winter.

Communication data demonstrated Mrs Spragg had reached out via messaging service to Mrs McCann to say the media had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she deserved to be taken seriously in the months leading up to the trip to that location, the county, in December 2024.

The court learned correspondence between the two accused, in last November, planning attempting to obtain Mrs McCann's biological evidence from her bins or from silverware at a restaurant.

"We need to take action," Mrs Spragg informed Ms Wandelt.

On the night of the trip to their home, the defendant dispatched a text which stated: "We're currently positioned outside the McCanns' home with our lights out similar to detectives. I wanted to achieve this with another person I never thought I would be doing that with the McCanns."
