Slot Provides Zero Justifications and Pledges to Plot Route From Slump
Arne Slot declared he needed to “examine my own performance” after Liverpool endured a sixth loss in seven English top-flight matches at home against Forest and insisted he would find a way from the champions’ slump.
Forest, fighting against the drop before kick off, delivered the biggest win at Anfield in their club records as Liverpool fell to an eighth loss in 11 matches in every tournament. The British record signing, the Swedish striker, was again anonymous and the home side argued the defender's opener ought to have been disallowed for similar reasons to the captain's chalked-off goal versus Manchester City prior to the international break. But Slot conceded the responsibility rested with him and offered no alibis.
“No one wants to listen to me now speaking about refereeing decisions if you lose 3-0 at home to Nottingham Forest,” stated the Reds' boss. “I ought to look at my own role initially and my team, but it does show you how a score can alter the flow of a game. Earlier I was just waiting for us to score a goal. Later we hardly generated anything.
“Naturally there is a way out, especially with the quality footballers we have. No matter if you win or lose when you look back you are always considering: ‘In which areas can we do better, where can we make changes?’ but that is different from doubting yourself.
“I want to stress I am responsible for the present defeats. You are responsible when you are winning but also liable when you are defeated. I can not come up with enough reasons for us to have the results we have. That is not good enough and I am responsible for that.”
The team's performance unravelled as Slot made multiple attacking changes when chasing the game. “It was the same on the road at Nottingham Forest last season,” he said. “I substituted the French defender off and put on [Diogo] Jota and he scored straight away to make it 1-1. Then it was courageous, currently it’s likely unwise.”
The Anfield side previously were defeated in back-to-back home Premier League games against Forest in the sixties. The most recent occasion they lost back-to-back top-flight matches by a three-goal scoreline was in the mid-60s.
Slot said: “It was very bad. Playing at home, losing 3-0 regardless of which opponent you encounter is a terrible result. Unexpected if you consider the opening 30 minutes of the game. I haven’t seen us producing so many chances in the opening 30 minutes perhaps the entire season, and the initial occasion they entered in our penalty area they found the back of the net.
“It did not happen at City, but in every other fixture we have been the dominant team and were capable to generate chances. Recently it is almost consistently that we miss our chances and the ones we concede find the net.”
