Slot Insists He Is Secure and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Loss
Arne Slot admitted that it's understandable for doubts to be asked about his future after a further heavy loss versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in twelve games, representing the club's poorest streak after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a difficult night at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got significant support from management,” Slot remarked.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and secure a win of course but when you're working as a coach and struggling then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my situation. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Talks with Club Management
When asked to expand on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach said:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me constantly each day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard exchanges I perceive the trust. But I've not talked to them since this defeat yet so we'll see.”
Recurring Problems and Player Reaction
The manager highlighted recurring failings from his team in their Champions League defeat, specifically missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” Jones said.
“It is unacceptable. I don't need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He added, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a phase like this with results so bad.”
He concluded, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And as long as that badge is gone, we'll continue to battle.”
“We will attempt to help the side back to the top, show everyone once more what this club is about and the reason it's called the top club in the world.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
