Edwards and O'Neil represent the initial candidates under consideration to replace the former manager as manager of Wolves.

The previous coach was dismissed on the weekend following the team's 10-match winless beginning to the Premier League campaign.

And Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have historic associations to the club - are part of the names to be evaluated by the club leadership.

The manager is currently at another club, which would pose a possible obstacle to his appointment at Wolves' stadium.

However the ex- Luton manager - who played more than 100 of games for the club during his time as a player - is said to be a strong candidate for the position.

The mid-career manager is said to have backing from the club directors as they start the search of hiring a new manager.

Gary O'Neil is also emerging as a unexpected candidate, even though he would be a shock choice given he was sacked by the club in the previous winter.

The ex- West Ham player is out of work which means Wolves would not need to provide any buyout fee.
