Adult Swim's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Earns a Substantial Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.
During the fall season, Adult Swim welcomed back its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, not long after, the network unveiled a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique feel. Haha, You Clowns was gentle and comforting, reminiscent of a animated take of a contemplative talk show. During a period often characterized by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and turned it into a breakout hit.
A Major Commitment
On December 18th, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two additional seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the story of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose primary trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four central characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the fans of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," remarked Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
A President's Endorsement
Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and advocated for its uniquely offbeat appeal.
"All of you showed up for this new show, praised it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Comforting Counterpoint
When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about following this charming family go about their daily lives.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to evolve comedy past its long-running cynical streak. He attributed this trend to various cultural shifts.
“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we must laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”
Future Seasons
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that change he described. If nothing else, the renewal promises audiences a little more time to enjoy the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The entire series is ready to watch on HBO Max.
